Mexican poet and Nobel prize winner Octavio Paz wrote "Little Birds," which Eric Whitacre has set to music. I have two versions of the piece in today's music feature. The first is for those who enjoy the backdrop of imagery while listening to music. The second is for those who prefer to see who is singing. You can scroll down to read the lyrics from Octavio Paz's poem.
The Marshal University Chamber Choir performs the music for the video above. In the video below, you can see the Salt Lake Vocal Artists group.
Little Birds
Noon Light
unblinking,
time empty of minutes,
a bird stopped short in air.
Later Light
flung down,
the pillars awake and,
without moving,
dance.
Full Sun
The time is transparent:
even if the bird is invisible,
let us see the color of his song.
Octavio Paz, 1914-1998
